Support for the fire brigade
To all projects15. June 2025

To support the emergency services in our partner region of Atwima, a fire engine that had been decommissioned in Murnau but was still in working order was donated by the municipality of Murnau and with the help of our association and was handed over in Ghana. The fire engine fills a major gap in the emergency services of our partner community. As a result, Atwima was able to set up its own fire station. The fire engine serves around 250,000 people in the region and neighbouring districts every day and is invaluable.
The vehicle was shipped from Germany to Ghana in 2023. During a delegation trip in the spring of that year, members of the Murnau Volunteer Fire Brigade trained their Ghanaian colleagues in the operation of the fire engine. Since the partnership began in 2019, there has been a lively and close exchange of expertise between the fire brigades, which is deepened with every delegation visit, whether in Murnau or Atwima. During a visit by administrative staff from Atwima to Murnau in spring 2024, Honourable Prince Karikari, then mayor of the Atwima district, reported on the positive impact and invaluable services the rescue vehicle had provided since its transfer the previous year. Not only does it help the 250,000 residents in the event of fires, but it also supports the population in accidents, emergencies and other precarious situations. When we travelled back to Ghana as a Murnau delegation at the beginning of 2025, we were also able to visit the new fire station.
